People being disempowered day by day; want to remind PM, HM of their promises to restore J&K’s statehood: G H Mir

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday foiled the Apni party’s protest march, held for the restoration of statehood to J&K, in Srinagar.

As per the news agency CNS, the protest, started from Apni Party office in Srinagar, was foiled by police before its culmination at the Press Enclave Srinagar. In the protest, Apni party leaders and workers took part and demanded the restoration of statehood to J&K.

During the protest, slogans which reverberated in the air included: “Restore the Statehood”, “We want justice” and “Apni Party Zindabad”.

However, the protesting leaders and workers of Apni party were stopped by police outside the party’s office.

“Protest is being conducted because the Prime Minister and Home Minister had promised to restore J&K’s statehood which has not been done yet. Instead, people are being disempowered day by day. We want to remind them to restore statehood of J&K and not violate the rights here,” said Apni Party Sr. Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir while talking to reporters during the protest in Srinagar.

Other protesting leaders of the Apni party also slammed the centre for dilly-dallying over the restoration of statehood to J&K despite the passing of around five years.

Youngsters And Mental Health

0

By Falak Zahoor

Alarming rates of suicides is a severe consequence of depression and anxiety. Our society has
a lean concept of depression and anxiety and hardly people suffering from it confess about it
because people around him don’t understand his situation. Society has very narrow thinking
about it. If by chance an ordinary person got to know about a depressed person, he will be
treated like an alien or lunatic and that very thing don’t let the repressed person share his
emotions. He gets discouraged and scolded for his behaviour instead of being encouraged or
treated with love and care.
We live in an era where getting depression or having anxiety among youngsters or teenagers
is frequent. It is a most usual consequence of atmosphere we live in or things which surround
us. “mental health is so important for every individual” and unfortunately now a days
youngsters of our generation suffer from it and are not even able to speak about it due to the
social stigma i.e “what people will say”. This very statement has ruined many lives. It is the
matter of serious concern. Suicides among teens are rising day by day due to they can’t bear
their mental pressure. It makes them mentally weak and they get involved in so many wrong
things. They need someone who will envisage their problem and need support, love, care,
attention instead of taunts and burden of expectations of others.

We need to normalise consulting a doctor for it and don’t have to think what society will
think, let them talk. Families need to recognize it and take necessary step instead of blaming
the person. Visiting a psychiatrist for our mental health is not a stigma, and we need to stop
treating it so. Families are requested to recognize the symptoms of depression and anxiety
among your family members and deal with them lovingly, encourage them to visit a doctor
and advice for youngsters who suffer it, “take one step forward, communicate to your loved
ones, hurting yourself will not serve any purpose, don’t isolate yourself, you guys are equally
important and no different from others, don’t hold any kind of pressure, start doing things
that makes you happy and gives you peace, don’t put your life at stake, visit a doctor and
most importantly pray indeed ALLAH IS THE BEST LISTENER AND PROVIDER”.

For those who suffer it……

Need to see light through barriers
Circumstances may not be in favour, we need to make our carriers
Need to make our mental health a priority
Hurdles will follow our way, no need to give them a superiority
Let the people say what they want
Let your ears listen what you want
Let your success be brighter and audible
Let the words of society be slighter and inaudible
Let your emotions come out
Let the hindrances to get out
You are not alone in it
There are other who also suffer it
Harming yourself will serve no purpose
We have to have across it without being nervous
At the end we are alone in our ache
But don’t have to put our lives at stake

Book Review of Honour by Elif Shafak

By Nuzhat Mushtaq

Honour by Elif Shafak is a poignant tale of family, tradition, and the enduring power of love amidst betrayal and loss. The story unfolds across three generations, weaving together the lives of Naze and Berzo, Pembe and Adem Toprak, and their children: Iskender, Esma, and Yunis.

The narrative begins with Esma’s visit to Shrewsbury prison to collect her brother, Iskender, who has served fourteen years for the murder of their mother. This act, committed in the name of “honour,” casts a long shadow over the family, leaving Esma filled with resentment towards her brother. The story then delves into the past, revealing the complex relationships between Pembe and Jameela, twin sisters born to Naze, a woman consumed by grief after losing her son and bearing eight daughters.

Adem Toprak, drawn to Jameela’s beauty, marries Pembe instead, leaving Jameela to become a virgin midwife in their village. Adem’s unhappiness in his marriage leads him to an affair with Roxana, a dancer, ultimately abandoning his family. Iskender, the eldest son, shoulders the responsibility for his family, grappling with his father’s infidelity and his desire to protect the family’s name. Jameela, guided by dreams, senses Pembe’s danger and sets out to find her, unaware of the new life Pembe has built in London.

Shafak masterfully crafts a story that explores the complexities of family dynamics, the weight of tradition, and the enduring power of love. The characters, each grappling with their burdens and desires, are vividly drawn, making their struggles and triumphs resonate deeply with the reader.
Jameela, unfamiliar with the bustling streets of London, found herself lost in a world she didn’t understand. She had come seeking Pembe, her twin sister, but the city held no trace of her. Desperate for connection, she ventured out with her nephew, Yunis, the youngest of the family. Yunis, however, was more interested in meeting his friends, leaving Jameela alone in the unfamiliar surroundings. It was then that Iskender, consumed by a twisted sense of honour, mistook Jameela for his mother, Pembe, and took her life.

The tragedy unfolded in a whirlwind of confusion and grief. Pembe, aware of Jameela’s arrival, hid Esma and Yunus, fearing for their safety. The news of Pembe’s death spread like wildfire, leaving everyone to believe that Iskender had killed his mother in a fit of rage. Iskender, imprisoned for his supposed crime, remained unaware of the truth. During a visit from his brother, Yunus, he learned that Pembe was alive. Hope surged through him, a glimmer of light in the darkness of his confinement. He envisioned a future where he could apologize to his mother, reunite with his family, and finally be free.

However, upon his release, Esma shattered his dreams. She revealed that Pembe had died six months earlier in their hometown. To protect her children from the truth of Iskender’s imprisonment, Esma had fabricated a story about him working in Alaska. She handed him a book about the state, a silent plea for him to embrace this new reality, a reality where his family was forever changed, and his past would forever haunt him.

Mindset matters the most

0

By Sabahat Nazir

One is known by the thoughts one nurtures, the words one utters, the actions one takes and the attitude one wears. It has been rightly said that it is the mindset that reveals the real worth of a person.Mindset is the set or the conglomerate of rules and strategies that govern the intellect and acumen of an individual. It is the portrayal of the way one thinks and perceives the world.Mindset can be growth oriented or fixed and rigid.Mindset can be positive and constructive or negative and destructive. We all love and cherish gifts. We love the blessings that beautify our lives.Positive mindset acts as the best gift and the most valued blessing one gets and can be cultivated and honed.A person with a positive mindset is known as an OPTIMIST and an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty and has the ability to tide over all the difficulties that crop up.Contrary to that,a person with a negative mindset is known as a PESSIMIST and a pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity and loses hope easily. It is quite momentous to house a positive and a healthy mindset.A positive mindset parents creativity and innovation.Only an optimist has the ability to convert pain into power and utilise it as a leverage and an impetus to propel in life.To be successful in life,we need to first discover the mindset that leads to success and opens the door to success.Once explored, the mindset must be utilized to think, ponder and have ideas. These ideas must then be shared with experts and applied to get the desired results.Hence,it is clear that success is a result of a positive mindset, positive attitude, patience, hard work, smart work, consistency, perseverance and resilience.
People are born with the love of learning, but the fixed mindset can undo it.Think of a time you were enjoying something_ doing a crossword
puzzle, playing a sport, learning a new skill. After some time,it got gruelling and you wanted to stop.Perhaps you suddenly felt tired, dizzy, bored or hungry.Next time this happens, don’t fool yourself. It’s the fixed mindset.Put yourself in a growth mindset.Picture your brain forming new connections as you meet the challenge and learn.Adapt to the hard and arduous tasks.Don’t quit.Keep on going.
It’s tempting to create a world in which we are perfect. This is a delusion,an illusion that masks our real existence. We cannot be flawless. Our imperfections help us enhance our abilities and hone our skills. It is mandatory to acknowledge the truth that CHANGE is the only constant in life.Life is a series and a succession of evolution and transformation. It needs to be understood through learning, unlearning and re-learning.Only a person with a growth oriented mindset can understand this philosophy and hence can be seen smiling even in the worst of misfortunes.
Happiness comes from within. It cannot be found outside our being. It is our mindset that makes us feel happy or doleful. It is the mindset that enables us to see the good in everyone and hence bear no resentment against anyone. It is the mindset that counsels and advises us and shows us the way when we feel lost.It is the mindset that protects us against plunging in the mire of anxiety and depression. It is the mindset that helps us earn respect and admiration. It is the mindset that makes us lovable and adorable. It is the mindset that educates us about all the aspects of life.It is the mindset that empowers us to be free and safe.It is the mindset that equips us so that we can break stereotypes and the stigma associated with sensitive subjects like mental health,gender-based violence, social justice and the various prejudices.Hence, the whole power lies with the mindset that must be positive and healthy.Only then, can we have a better world where ideas thrive and life blossoms. It is the mindset that matters.

World Environment Day

0

By Humaira Syed

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th to raise global awareness and action for environmental protection. On this day the UN General Assembly designated World Environment Day coinciding with the beginning of the Stock Holm conference on the human environment .

On June 5 , 1973 the world celebrated the first environment day . The date was chosen by the United Nations to honor the 1972 UN Conference on the human environment , a landmark summit in conservation and environmental awareness.

The theme of this year’s world environment day is land restoration , desertification and drought resilience.

World Environment day is celebrated every year on June 5 globally . It is the day on which awareness is spread awareness about the environment and the need to conserve it .Moreover it is essential to advocate for a greener environment and conservation of nature . It is quite simple as when we conserve the environment today , the future generations will be able to lead a healthier life . We cannot be so selfish and use up all the resources for ourselves .

World Environment day is the perfect opportunity to make people aware of the issues we are facing and how one can contribute to saving it . Thus it is quite important in its own way.

World Environment day reminds us to strengthen the world and ensure that nature is preserved at all costs. It throws light on the causes which are causing serious harm to our environment for instance, industries  and factories are contributing largely to pollution. They are deteriorating the quality of air that we breathe and the water we consume. Thus this day serves as an eye opener for many citizens who are not aware of all this. In other words, it spreads awareness amongst the common people which the environment is facing right now on the occasion of world environment day. It is essential for all to realize that every little deed matters when it comes to saving the environment no matter how small a step you are taking to lead a greener lifestyle, it does make a difference because if everyone starts doing little deeds one by one it will turn into something big. As the saying goes, every drop makes an ocean.

As there are a lot of diseases that originate due to unhygienic living conditions and dirty water we must begin there. For instance when water remains stagnant or unclean for long various insects and bacteria start growing there this results in deadly disease like malaria, dengue and more so we must make sure to cover the tanks, pots, coolers and more. Which may become a breeding ground for such insects and diseases.

As you all know that desertification is a type of gradual land degradation of fertile land into arid desert due to a combination of natural processes and human activities. This spread of arid areas is caused by a variety of factors such as over exploitation of soil as a result of human activity and the effects of climate change.

Drought resiliency focuses on preparing communities for future droughts by giving them the means to endure with stand and recover from these events . strategies to conserve water, access new water sources and manage drought on a watershed level can help communities become more resilient.

Similarly we have to talk about the issues of garbage disposal especially in our country people litter around everywhere. It is essential to firstly dispose of waste properly and also segregate the wet and dry waste accordingly. Environment day serves as a reminder to protect the environment at all costs. All the resources of nature from forest to oceans and soil to air, we must conserve. Always remember that the gifts and blessings which nature endows on us are priceless. It is rather essential to conserve them all for a better future and life.

Destiny A Short Story

0

By Rayees Ahmad Kumar

Despite insistences from his parents, friends and relatives to tie the nuptial with Salma, Zubair was hell-bent to marry his high school friend Sadia. Sadia was an extraordinarily beautiful and good mannered girl who was the lone daughter of her well off parents. Her father was a company secretary while her mother was a government school teacher. They had brought up her daughter in an environment filled with love, affection and encouragement. They had left no stone unturned to give her the best education and make available for her every facility and means to realise her dreams and fulfill her wishes. To pursue her masters in business administration, her parents whole heartedly allowed her to move abroad. She was anxious to pursue her studies in Europe and her both parents bared the pains of solitude for almost four years but were pleased to see their daughter realising her dreams. During her studies in Europe, one day she had accidentally met Zubair in a coffee canteen of the university who was also her classmate during high school. Zubair had come there a year ago and was pursuing management studies. With each passing day both Zubair and Sadia developed fresh acquaintance and their bond grew stronger. Soon they were fast friends and pledged to live the rest part of their life together as husband wife. Sadia was a pampered daughter of her parents so they would in no way decline her wish to marry Zubair an academically intelligent and bold guy. But it was Zubair’s family who desired to marry their son with Salma a noble and righteous daughter of her middle class parents. Though she wasn’t as beautiful as Sadia but her heart was as pure as driven snow and was an obedient daughter. After completing his studies abroad Zubair immediately was absorbed as a manager of a leading public sector bank after qualifying a tough banking exam. He not only built a splendid three storey house but also bought a comfortable luxurious car. His parents too enjoyed living in cozy rooms of the newly constructed house. He left no stone unturned to make them feel pleased and overjoyed. Now their only wish was to marry their son with Salma because in his childhood his mother and Salma’s mother had promised to tie them in nuptial. However Zubair was all determined to marry Sadia because their years of deep relationship had brought them so closer that they pledged to marry together. Sadia was too attached to Zubair so was Zubair. Spending leisure time in green lawns of university, enjoying hot and refreshing coffee in the the university canteen and helping each other in academic affairs was their routine during their stay abroad.
However Zubair had finally to get married with Salma when his parents, friends and other relatives insisted him and declined his desire to marry Sadia. First few months of marriage were tough and tense for Salma as he never loved and cared her the way a selfless husband should. Soon after returning from the office, instead of giving time to his spouse he preferred to meet his friends for hours and returned home at bed time. Many times she complained to her parents about the abnormal behavior of her husband who could do nothing except advising their daughter to remain patient. Salma was doing house chores and spending the melancholic period in Zubair’s home but he was still inclined towards Sadia. On one fateful day, while returning from office he met an accident and both his lower limbs got severely fractured. He was operated at city hospital and remained bedridden for almost six moths. He couldn’t move without a human help, wasn’t able to take meals independently and when he felt the urge to urinate, except Salma no one even from his own family members came to his help. For all six months Salma stood as an all time friend to Zubair. She helped him to do an advised daily physiotherapy, recalled him to take a daily dose of prescribed medicines and helped him to urinate. She almost caged herself for six long months as she never got a chance even to meet her ailing old parents. But her priority was always to sit besides her husband during the tough times of predicament. After six months when Zubair was fit and fine and resumed his duties, he realised his mistake and apologized to Salma for all that he did previously to dishearten her. Now after returning from office, instead of meeting his friends he spent the beautiful moments in company of Salma and brought fruits and other eatables which Salma loved. He not only remained a loyal and faithful husband to Salma from now onwards but his own parents too felt appeased and contented.

After every prayer he would now express his gratitude to Allah and his parents who had arranged such a faithful spouse for him who came to his help and rescue in most difficult times of his life.

Pak Continues To Be In Political Tumult

0

By R C Ganjoo

Pakistan’s political culture is now outmoded. As a result, it has caused a serious threat to the integrity, economic development, and overall progress of Pakistan.
It goes without saying that in Pakistan in the present political environment, the political parties have become fiefdoms but subsequently trying to save the entire concept of democracy.
It was observed in the February 8 elections in Pakistan that gave a severe blow to Pakistan’s Islamist parties. A major Islamist party that experienced a humiliating defeat mainly Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s, the Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). The other Islamic political parties that actively participated in the February 8 polls were Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM), the Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, and the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Nazriati but failed to achieve their goal. What are the root causes that the Islamist parties are on the way to being irrelevant in Pakistan’s electoral politics? It was observed that the influence of religio-political parties in Pakistani politics was silently returned through democratic assertiveness.
In Pakistan’s political system, there are significant numbers of religio-political parties. Out of the 167 parties registered with the Election Commission, roughly 25 have Islamist or sectarian names, reflecting their religious affiliations.
Imran Khan’s supporter retired Lt-Gen Naeem Khalid Lodhi in his nine-point proposal, called for a ceasefire between all the warring parties in the country and a period of calm reflection. He suggested bringing down the boiling temperature by letting the incumbents stay in office for two years under protest of just black armbands and avoiding more dramatic, potent, or disruptive such as public demonstrations
He also called for the closure of court cases, an end to the imprisonment of PTI leaders, and a cessation of harsh verbal exchanges between rivals. His party leader had other ideas and named the army chief as the person responsible for his continued imprisonment, claiming that if anything were to happen to him, or his wife, the most powerful man in the country would be directly responsible. He also called on his supporters to stand up and be counted or be content with a life of ‘slavery’.
In the February 8 elections, Islamist parties received almost 12 percent of votes in the country, according to a report by Gallup Pakistan. After PTI-backed independent candidates, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) respectively, the fourth largest party in the country was TLP (Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan,) with 2.8 million votes. Party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, his sons, and other prominent leaders lost to PTI-backed candidates. Only Fazl’s brother, Maulana Ubaidur Rehman, managed to retain his provincial assembly seat. This loss in its traditional base gave a major blow to the party. JUI-F leaders privately attributed the poor performance and the rise of the opposing PTI to public dissatisfaction with inflation and the government’s crackdown on the PTI. JUI-F and JI received 2.1 million and 1.3 million votes respectively, and their combined votes are slightly more than the TLP. According to Bilal Gilani, the director of Gallup Pakistan, “The average vote for Islamic parties is around 5 percent. So, vote-wise, they have done well. However, the ability of Islamist parties failed to convert votes into seats and saw a setback both in 2018 and in the 2024 polls.”
The rise of PTI under Imran Khan was a blow to the electoral fortunes of Islamist parties. Firstly, PTI effectively positioned itself as the outsider, challenging the status quo traditionally associated with both the PML-N and PPP, and some Islamist parties, including the JUI-F and the JI. Secondly, PTI focused on a broader national agenda that transcended purely religious themes. Imran Khan , a champion of liberalism, simultaneously appealed to Islamic values, such as his references to the state of Medina and anti-Western sentiment. This strategy proved successful in his favour. Khan skilfully used the “Medina state” as a model for social justice, which vibrated with voters seeking a society based on Islamic principles without noticing the extremism and sectarianism of some Islamist parties.
Political experts do acknowledge that people in Pakistan have a disconnection between religious values and real politics. According to experts, political parties prioritise pragmatism and compromise moral principles, leading to a perception of deceitful tactics and a disconnect from religious ideals. This was also observed that religious scholars should avoid politics entirely and focus solely on offering spiritual guidance.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the conduct of recent elections, the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticised the flaws in the electoral system. Like other Islamist parties, members of the Jamaat-i-Islami have been questioning the party’s future relevance due to consistently poor electoral performances.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has decided to launch an anti-government movement without the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). According to media reports, JUI-F leadership had expressed displeasure over the recent statement of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur regarding the Feb 8 election rigging
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief has advised the ruling parties to relinquish the government and pass the baton to PTI while announcing a ‘million march’ against election rigging. He warned that any attempts to obstruct their protest would result in trouble.
The JUI-F chief said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari should step aside and let the Imran Khan-led party take the helm as it has the majority in the National Assembly.
