Minor boy drowns in river Jhelum in Bandipora’s Hajin, rescue ops underway

Bandipora, Jul 15 (KNO): An 8-year-old boy drowned in the river Jhelum at Asham village of Zoonipora area of Hajin in North kashmir Bandipora district on Thursday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the minor drowned while he was taking a bath in the river Jhelum, following which a search operation was launched to retrieve the drowned boy’s body.

The officer identified the boy as Sajad Shabir  Sheikh son of Shabir Ahamd Sheikh a resident of Zoonipora Hajin.

The rescue operation was going on when the last reports came in.

Earlier today, an elderly man died after he slipped into river Jhelum at Banger Mohalla locality of Hajin in the district.
An official said that Ghulam Mohammad Daunto son of Abdul Rehman Daunto of Hajin died after he slipped into the river, while he was performing ablution on the banks of the river.

After the incident, the police and civil administration launched a search operation and recovered the body, which was later handed over to his relatives for last rites—(KNO)
