Woman Held for Pickpocketing Incident Inside District Hospital Kulgam

Kulgam, Jan 1,: Police in South Kashmir’s Kulgam arrested a woman pickpocket following a theft incident reported from District Hospital Kulgam, where a complainant alleged that cash was stolen from her pocket while she was attending a patient.

Officials said information regarding the theft was received at Police Station Kulgam during the evening hours, prompting immediate action by police personnel deployed in and around the hospital premises. Acting swiftly, the police team identified and apprehended a woman involved in the incident.

The accused was identified as Roomi Jan, wife of Sartaj Ahmad Sheikh, a local of Sheikh Mohalla, Damhal Hanjipora. During her personal search, police recovered cash amounting to Rs 20,200, which was confirmed to be the amount stolen from the complainant.

Police said the recovered cash was seized on the spot as evidence, and the accused was taken into custody for further legal proceedings. A case FIR No. 143/25 has been registered at Police Station Kulgam under relevant sections of law.

Officials added that further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused has any prior involvement in similar pickpocketing incidents and to complete procedural formalities.

Police have urged locals and hospital visitors to remain cautious in crowded public places and to report such incidents promptly to the police. [KNT]
