Anantnag: Anantnag Police, in its ongoing efforts to combat the menace of drug trafficking, achieved significant success in two separate operations conducted by Police Stations Srigufwara and Mattan.
In a statement issued to Asian Mail, police official said that the Police party from Police Station Srigufwara established a naka (checkpoint) on the Sirhama link road. During the naka checking, the police party intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a bag. Upon noticing the police naka party, the individual attempted to flee but was swiftly and tactfully apprehended by the alert police team.
On initial questioning, the individual disclosed his identity as Ab Rehman Mir, son-in-law of Mohd Akbar Nengroo, a resident of Sirhama.
Upon searching his belongings, 1.270 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from his bag.
Meanwhile, a case under FIR No. 04/2025 under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
In another operation based on specific information, a police team from Police Station Mattan conducted a raid at the residence of Javid Ahmad Padder, son of Gh Ahmad Padder, a resident of Pethnambal Mattan. During the search, 5 kilograms of Charas powder was recovered from the house. In this case FIR No. 05/2025 registered in Police Station Mattan and the accused was arrested and contraband seized.
