Locals of Shopian Village Demand Fire Service Station After Devastating Blaze Guts Structure

Shopian: A devastating fire mishap in Mohanpora village of Shopian district late Friday night has reignited demands from locals for setting up of a fire service station in the area. The fire completely gutted a structure, resulting in significant losses for the owner, highlighting the vulnerability of the area to such disasters.

According to eyewitnesses, a fire broke out and rapidly spread to consume a shed. Despite valiant efforts put by residents to control the blaze using water from nearby streams, the structure could not be saved. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but valuable resources stored in the shed were destroyed.

Villagers expressed frustration over the absence of a nearby fire service station, which they say severely delayed firefighting efforts. “Whenever such incidents occur, we are forced to call fire stations in Zainapora or Shopian, which are far from Imamsahib. Last night, it took nearly an hour for the fire brigade to reach our area,” a local resident told GNS.

The residents emphasized the risk posed by the lack of any firefighting infrastructure. “This time, the fire occurred near the orchard side. Had it god forbid broken out in the village, it could have caused widespread destruction,” they said.

The incident has intensified calls for a dedicated fire service station in the Imamsahib area. “We are left vulnerable to such disasters. A fire service station here could prevent significant losses and ensure timely response in emergencies,” said another resident.

Villagers have appealed to the authorities to address their long-standing demand and establish a fire service station in the Imamsahib area to safeguard lives and property. (GNS)
