South Africa defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs

South Africa played the follow-on on the third day of the second Test match,Bangladesh were bowled out for 143 runs for the second time. After an innings and a 273-run victory, the Bangladeshi batsmen who came for the follow-on after being bowled out for 159 runs in the first innings this morning also in the second innings. Failed. Apart from Nazmul Shantu (36), Maheedul Islam Ankoon (29) and Hasan Mehmood (38 not out), none of their batsmen could reach double figures. The Bangladesh batsmen looked helpless against the South African bowlers and their entire team was bundled out for 143 in 43.4 overs. This is Bangladesh’s ninth innings defeat against South Africa. In this match, the South Africans bowled brilliantly and batted first, dismissing Bangladesh twice in 89 overs in both innings.

Keshav Maharaj took five wickets for South Africa. Senoran Muthusami took four wickets. Dean Patterson dismissed a batsman.

Earlier this morning, South Africa bowled out Bangladesh’s first innings for 159 runs, forcing them to follow on, thanks to a brilliant performance by Kagiso Rabada (five wickets) and other bowlers.

Bangladesh, who were 38 for four yesterday, added eight runs to the score this morning when Rabada dismissed Nazmul Shanto (nine) and sent him to the pavilion. In the very next over, Mushfiqur Rahim (0) was caught by Dean Patterson. Mehdi Hasan Miraz (one), Maheedul Islam  (0) out. Momin-ul-Haq played the highest innings for Bangladesh with 82 runs. Tejul Islam (30) was dismissed after scoring 30 runs. Bangladesh’s batsmen could not keep up with the South African bowlers and kept losing their wickets at regular intervals. The situation was such that eight batsmen could not even reach double figures. The entire Bangladesh team was all out for 159 runs in 45.2 overs. Bangladesh were still trailing South Africa by 416 runs after the first innings. South Africa forced Bangladesh to play the follow-on.

Kagiso Rabada took five wickets for South Africa. Dean Patterson and Keshav Maharaj dismissed two batsmen each. Senoran Muthusami took one wicket.

Earlier yesterday, with the help of centuries from Tony de George (177), Tristan Stubbs (106) and Vian Mulder (105), South Africa declared the innings after scoring 575 runs for six wickets.
