Udhampur: DC inaugurates District Kabaddi championship for Boys & Girls

Udhampur: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai today declared open the Junior/Sub-Junior Kabaddi Championship for Boys and Girls here at the Indoor Sports Stadium.
The event is being organized by the District Kabaddi Association Udhampur under the aegis of J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association.
The event commenced with the National Anthem followed by a cultural fest. A total of 300 players participated in the opening ceremony, taking an oath to play with integrity, sportsmanship and adherence to the rules of the game.
The two-day championship would feature competitions among 29 teams representing different clubs, government and private institutions from across the district.
Addressing participants, the DC expressed her delight at the enthusiastic participation of boys and girls in the competition, especially those from rural and urban areas. She extended her best wishes to all participants and organizers, emphasizing the importance of engaging in sports to develop physical fitness, leadership, teamwork and positive thinking. She added that participation in sports is a great foundation for nurturing young talent.
She further appreciated the vibrant folk dance performances by students and commended the District Youth Services and Sports Department and the event organizers for their efforts in hosting the championship.
Ashok Kumar Salhotra, former Director of Sports at SMVDU Katra, attended as the guest of honour.
Earlier, Sheikh Tanveer, President District Kabaddi Association and Ashok Kumar Sharma, Chairman, presented a floral bouquet to the chief guest.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by District Information Officer Rajinder Digra, DYSSO, Romesh Chander Mishra, former Municipal Councillor Udhampur Vikram Slathia.
