Grand Kashmir Marathon to Be held in October: Director Tourism

Says registration open for all, bollywood celebrities expected to attend

 

Srinagar: Director of Tourism Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob Farooq on Wednesday said that the inaugural ‘Kashmir Marathon’ will be held on October 20, with preparations underway and several Bollywood celebrities expected to participate.

Raja Yaqoob Farooq, speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that the UT’s LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary have officially launched the event, registration is now open, and they are receiving positive responses from people both nationally and internationally, indicating it will be a grand success.

“Runners from across India and abroad are expected to participate in two disciplines: the marathon (42 km) and the half marathon (21 km). The marathon will start at Polo View, passing through Cheshma Shahi Garden to the University Gate, while the half marathon will end at Nishat,” he said.

He added, “I’m pleased to report that we are receiving numerous inquiries about registration, and people from across the country and abroad are expected to participate.”

He also urged runners from the Kashmir Valley to participate and compete for cash prizes. Also, he mentioned that Indian actor and film producer Suniel Shetty and professional badminton player Saina Nehwal, among others, are in contact and are expected to take part in the event.
