EC to announce LS poll schedule tomorrow

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the Lok Sabha and state assemblies poll schedule on Saturday.

Giving this information on Friday, the Election Commission of India on X said, “Press Conference by the Election Commission to announce the schedule for general elections 2024 and some state assemblies will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow, i.e., Saturday, March 16th. It will be livestreamed on social media platforms of the ECI.”.

The announcement comes hours after the two newly appointed election commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, took charge of the office on Friday.

Soon after the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect.

The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 16, and a new House has to be constituted before that.

In 2019, the Lok Sabha polls were announced on March 10 and held in seven phases beginning April 11. The counting of votes took place on May 23.
