SKIMS Celebrates World Kidney Day

Srinagar :  The Department of Nephrology SKIMS celebrated World Kidney Day today at SKIMS auditorium on this year’s theme ” Kidney Health For All, Advancing Equitable Access To Care And Optimal Medication Practice ”

During the awareness program the experts in the field highlighted the importance of healthy kidneys.

H.O.D Nephrology & Organising Chairman Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Bhat in his address welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of World Kidney Day which is aimed to create awareness about rising kidney diseases it’s diagnosis and management. He highlighted the role of SKIMS in providing various treatment facilities to the people at multiple levels. He said SKIMS is the first centre to run Kidney Transplant Program successfully with the highest number of successful kidney transplants done. SKIMS  also contributes to trained human resource to dialysis centres available at District Hospitals, he added. He lauded dedicated team of his department for their excellent functioning.

Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Prof B. A Laway who was present on the occasion lauded the efforts of the Department of Nephrology for conducting these awareness programs. He said given the importance of Kidney health & rise in various kidney diseases due to diabetes, self medication, frequent use of painkillers , these awareness program are very critical to awareness the masses. He said Department of Nephrology is an important centre with major facilities who are playing important role in treatment and management of kidney diseases.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Prof.  Farooq  A. Jan also spoke on the occasion and gave details of various facilities available at SKIMS. He said the Department of Nephrology is playing a major role in creating awareness about various Kidney diseases every year through various awareness programs.

Besides, Panel discussion lectures on various important topics were delivered by the Faculty of the Department of Nephrology. The topics included ” Awareness about manifestations of common Kidney Diseases in our community by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Parray Assistant Prof. Department of Nephrology and ” Availability of Treatment Modalities in patients with kidney diseases in the Valley by Dr. Rayees Yousuf Assistant Prof. Department Of Nephrology.

The program was attended by faculty, students and various heads of SKIMS. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Muzamil wani.
