Kolkata: A leather factory, among others, and some 16 shops, mostly eateries, were destroyed in a fire at a market close to the Netara railway station at Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas early on Saturday, official sources said.

There was no loss of life in the blaze, which was first noticed around 3:00 a.m.

A firefighting vehicle was pressed into the service to douse the flames, which were brought under control in about three hours.
