Rahul’s remarks dishonored democratic institutions of India: Smriti Irani

New Delhi, March 15 : Union Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday slammed Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on India’s politics in the United Kingdom and said his remarks are “insult to the democratic institutions” of the country.

“It’s shameful that Rahul Gandhi, instead of coming to Parliament and apologising for his undemocratic rant against India, today, seeks to be absent from the Parliament” Irani said here while addressing the press conference here.

She said that Rahul Gandhi dishonored the Parliament, Constitution and the people by his remarks.

“At the feet of India’s colonial past Rahul Gandhi lamented lack of foreign intervention to bring halt to India’s resilient growth,” she said.

The Minister said, “Democracy is not in peril, but the Congress Party has been brought to political perish by the people of India for this very behaviour that you exhibited against the nation overseas”.

“Today, every Indian citizen demands an apology to the Indian Parliament, which is not merely an amalgamation of the Parliamentarians but is the collective voice of the Indian people” she said.

The Congress MP Rahul Gandhi while speaking in the UK recently, had alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under “brutal attack” and BJP and RSS have captured almost all institutions.
