KPDCL, BEA, ASSOCHAM jointly organise one day workshop on Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Kashmir

Srinagar, May 11: Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEA), Ministry of Power and ASSOCHAM today organized a stakeholders workshop for the officers of different departments to discuss Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Kashmir to achieve net zero carbon economy as well as formulate the roadmap to achieve the energy transition goals here.

The workshop was attended by Chief Engineer KPDCL, Kashmir, Secretary Technical, PDD, officers from transport department, SMC, Housing and Urban development department, officers from other concerned departments, representatives from BEA, ASSOCHAM and others.

Speaking on the occasion, CE, KPDCL, Javed Yousuf Dar emphasised on the need of transition from fossil fuels to non-fossil fuels for reducing carbon emissions. He highlighted that this is an eminent and immediate necessity keeping in view the global climate scenario.

 Secretary Technical PDD, Bashir Ahmed Dar said that the point of using better heating systems that consume less power for energy efficiency and cost effectiveness is the need of hour to find solution to the problem.

The workshop was organised in consonance with the commitments made by India in Glasgow, UK which calls for robust energy transition action plan in all sectors of the economy, so as to achieve its targets of reducing carbon intensity of its economy to less than 45% by 2030.

The workshop discussed briefly the various energy consuming sectors in the UT of J&K, the policies and infrastructural mechanism in place and the took on valuable inputs from the various stakeholders department to improve the current energy scenario.

The workshop brought together all the stakeholders on the same platform to discuss the challenges and way forward to make India an Energy Efficient Green Economy. Each session of the workshop was followed by an interaction cum question answer session.
