EAM speaks with Israeli, Vietnamese counterparts

New Delhi, Jan 7 :External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday continued his New Year conversations over phone with counterparts from other countries, including Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and Vietnam’s Bui Thanh Son.

In tweets, he said that it was great to speak with the Israeli Foreign Minister who he had met in person during his visit to Jerusalem in October.

He said that both sides are looking forward to marking the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

“Great to talk to APM and FM @yairlapid of Israel in the New Year.

“Discussed our bilateral and plurilateral cooperation. Looking forward to marking the 30th anniversary of our diplomatic ties.”

On his talk with Vietnamese FM Bui Thanh Son, he tweeted that the two sides mark 50 years of diplomatic relations and reaffirm their commitment to the bilateral strategic partnership.

“On 50th Anniversary of our diplomatic relations, reaffirm our commitment to the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

“Will continue to work for the Joint Vision for Peace, Prosperity and People laid down by our Prime Ministers,” he posted.

Over the past two days, the EAM has been speaking with his counterparts from a number of countries– from the US, Russia, Australia, and closer home, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

“These conversations reflect both the exchange of customary New Year greetings as well as the practice of virtual diplomacy in Covid times. As you are aware we have been engaging in virtual format meetings at various levels with our foreign interlocutors,” the MEA spokesperson said on Thursday, elaborating on the talks.
