J&K authorities urge Kashmiris to follow SoPs, prevent Covid

Srinagar, Nov 8: In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in Kashmir valley, health workers in several areas of this winter capital of the Union Territory directed people to adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SoPs), in order to contain the Novel Conronavirus infection.

Vehicles fitted with Public Address System were making repeated announcements in city and downtown areas of Srinagar, directing people to wear face masks, use hand sanitizers and maintain social distance to curtail the rise in Covid-19 cases.

A health official said that 60 per cent of cases are being reported from Srinagar alone, which is a cause of concern.

Out of 165 fresh positive cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, 156 were from Kashmir valley alone. Most of the cases were reported from Lal Bazar, Natipora and Bemina area of Srinagar, the official said and added that if people did not follow the SoPs, the authorities would announce lockdown in the affected areas.

The divisional authorities in Srinagar on last Friday had declared eight more areas as micro-containment zones, falling under medical zones of Batamaloo, Zadibal, SR Gunj and Khanyar.

Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, had said the recent spike in Covid-19 cases had prompted the administration to take the step for protection of precious lives.

He said the Srinagar administration is mulling to impose localised lockdowns in some specific areas of the city, if the number of positive cases do not decrease.
