27 arrested for IPL betting

Bengaluru, Oct 20 (UNI) Unearthing a cricket betting racket, the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested 27 people for betting in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

Police also seized Rs 78 lakh in cash and papers related to the betting transactions from the accused.

Those arrested were accused of inviting online cricket betting on matches and were collecting lakhs of rupees from people who were betting, CCB police said.

They assured people of multiplication of their principal amount in a short time with fraudulent and dishonest intentions, the police said.

The arrested persons are facing charges under sections of the IPC criminalising gambling in the case, CCB said.

The police had formed a team of senior officers to conduct raids after receiving inputs on online betting during IPL, they said.
