PM Modi arrives in Washington to exuberant welcome from Indian diaspora

Washington, Sep 23 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the US to an enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora community.

He was received at the Andrew Airbase by T.H. Brian McKeon, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, on behalf of the Government of the USA, and by Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The Indian tricolour was fluttering at the Andrews Airbase alongside the US flag in honour of PM Modi’s arrival.

An exuberant Indian diaspora community stretched out their hands to shake hands with PM Modi at the airport and click his photographs, as the Prime Minister obliged smilingly and shook hands with some of them.

He later also met some members of the Indian community.“Grateful to the Indian community in Washington DC for the warm welcome. Our diaspora is our strength. It is commendable how the Indian diaspora has distinguished itself across the world,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Earlier, on arrival in Washington, he posted: “Landed in Washington DC. Over the next two days, will be meeting @POTUS @JoeBiden and @VP @KamalaHarris, Prime Ministers @ScottMorrisonMP and

@sugawitter. Will attend the Quad meeting and would also interact with leading CEOs to highlight economic opportunities in India.”

“PM @narendramodi was greeted on arrival by Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Ambassador of India to USA and Mr. T. H. Brian McKeon, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources,” the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

“The tricolour fluttering at the Joint Base Andrews in honour of PM

@narendramodi.”

“Exuberant members of the Indian diaspora welcoming PM@narendramodi upon landing in Washington D.C.,” he posted.

PM Modi is in the US on a four-day visit during which he will attend the first in-person Quad summit on September 24 and address the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25. He will also hold important bilateral meetings with world leaders.
