Rajya Sabha adjourned again with Oppn members in no mood to climb down

New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) Continued disruptions with Opposition members holding placards in the hands and shouting slogans forced the first adjournment of the day in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday soon after it assembled at 11 AM.

As protesting members refused to pay heed to his requests, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House till 12 noon.

Ever since the Monsoon session of the Parliament began on July 19, the Opposition members have dug heels over the issue of alleged Pegasus snooping, farm laws, fuel price spike and other issues.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a breakfast meeting with his own party MPs and dozens of representatives of other opposition parties to chalk out strategies for cornering the government.

It may be a coincidence but the Opposition uproar in Rajya Sabha appeared louder today than the past few days with many of its members on their feet and raising slogans.

As soon as the House Chairman announced that the notices given by various Opposition members including KC Venugopal (Congress), Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Sanjay Singh (AAP) and Ram Gopal Yadav (SP) under Rule 267 cannot be admitted, pandemonium erupted with members in no mood to climb down.

Minister of Minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi raised a Point of Order but was barely audible clearly as massive uproar continued.

The Chairman repeatedly requested members to go back to their seats and allow the House to function but the plea fell on deaf ears. Several members came to the Well, kept holding placards and shouted slogans.

He told some of the protesting members that they were bringing bad names to Parliament and themselves by crossing all limits. At one point, he even warned a member against pointing finger towards the Chair.

“You will be harming yourself, I am telling you. .. Nobody can dictate to the Chair, nobody can point accusing fingers to the Chair,” Naidu warned.

Naidu noted that the majority of the members want the House to run and discuss issues. Further, they want to discuss, debate and decide and not disrupt.
