COVID: India reports 42,640 cases, 1,167 deaths in past 24 hrs

New Delhi, Jun 22 (UNI) India recorded 42,640 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s caseload to 2,99,77,861 while the death toll soared to 3,89,302 with 1,167 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The active cases declined by 40,366 to stand at 6,62,521. It is now 2.21 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 81,839 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 2,89,26,038, which is 96.49 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.30 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 39,40,72,142 lakh samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 16,64,360 were tested on Monday.

India has administered 86,16,373 vaccine doses in the past day, highest ever single day vaccination achieved in the world so far, raising the total vaccination count to 28,87,66,201.
