Jaishankar meets Blinken in London, discusses COVID challenge, Indo-Pacific, climate change

New Delhi, May 4:  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and discussed COVID-19 situation, Indo-Pacific, Myanmar and issues relating to climate change.

Mr Jaishankar, who is in London to attend the G-7 meeting, where India has been invited as a guest, took to twitter to inform about the first in-person meeting between them since the Joe Biden Administration took charge.

“Good to meet in person my old friend @SecBlinken. Detailed discussion on the global Covid challenge, focussing on expanded vaccine production capacity and reliable supply chains,” Mr Jaishankar tweeted.

“Expressed appreciation for the strong US support to India at this difficult time, especially oxygen and Remdesivir.Our meeting also covered issues of Indo-Pacific, UN Security Council, Myanmar and climate change,” he said in another tweet.

US Military transporter carrying the first shipment of medical aid– more than 400 oxygen cylinders, around one million rapid coronavirus test kits, N-95 face masks and other medical equipment– had reached the IGI Airport on April 30.

Mr Blinken, in a tweet, said he was looking forward to further deepening the partnership between both the countries.

“Met today with @DrSJaishankar to discuss our joint efforts to combat COVID-19 and to advance our broader comprehensive global strategic partnership. India is a close friend and partner, and I look forward to further deepening the unique partnership between our two nations,” Mr Blinken wrote on Twitter.
