India records 3,57,229 COVID-19 cases, 3,449 more die

New Delhi, May 4 : India recorded 3,57,229 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, pushing the active caseload to 1,99,25,604, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Tuesday.

Within the same period, the death toll has risen by 3,449 and now stands at 2,22,408. More than 15.68 million patients have recovered since the start of the epidemic.

As many as 3,20,289 were discharged taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,66,13,292.

According to the Ministry, the active cases rose by 33,491 in the last 24 hours and the active case tally now stands at 24,28,616.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 29,33,10,779 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 16,63,742 were tested in the past one day.

On the vaccination front, total 15,89,32,921 people have been administered COVID-19 jabs since January 16, with 17,08,390 people being inoculated since yesterday.
