Rajya Sabha adjourned till 1300 hrs post Oppn ruckus over rising fuel price

New Delhi, Mar 8 :  The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were again adjourned till 1300 hrs after it reassembled at 1100 hrs following the first adjournment.

Soon after the House resumed at 1100 hrs, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Under Rule 267 we gave a notice where we clearly sought suspension of the business of the day to discuss the fuel prices. We can not wait till the Appropriation Bill is taken up. The common man will suffer as the prices are raising by the day”.

Responding to Mr Kharge, Deputy Chairman Harivansh who was chairing the proceedings of the House, said that the Chairman has already given a ruling in this regard and his decision could not be revisited.

“Mr Kharge, You are such an experienced leader and you know the rules of the House, therefore, I request you all to allow the House to run”, Mr Harivansh said, adding that the House will take up statutory business.

However, the Opposition continued to argue against the ruling of disallowing suspension of business of the day to debate the rising fuel prices and came into well.

The Deputy Chairman made repeated requests to the Opposition Members to resume their seats and allow the House to transact the business but his advice fell on the deaf ears of the Opposition Members, following which the Chair adjourned the Upper House till 1300 hrs.
