Altaf Thakur inaugurates Khelo-India cricket tournament in Sail, Tral

Tral, March 4: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur today inaugurated Khelo-India cricket tournament in Sail area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district stating Khelo-India program will help youth of Kashmir remain fit and healthy while as sports activities will help prevent drug abuse among Valley youth.
In a brief statement issued here, Thakur said that while inaugurating the cricket tournament under Khelo-India program at Sail, Tral, he interacted with the different teams participating in the event and urged them to continue playing sports and ensure drug abuse is prevented. “Youth participating in cricket tournament hailed the inauguration of sports and promised that they will promote sports stating that Kashmir was full talent and tournaments like the one started today helps youth to display their talent,” Thakur said, adding that he was glad to see young boys taking part in the tournament.
“Our mission is to keep youth engaged in the sports activities so that they remain fit and healthy. Khelo India will help make Fit India. When youth of a country are healthy and fit that means country is fit. This is what Prime Minister Narendera Modi wants through Kehlo India Games that are being launched across the country,” Thakur said and assured the youth all the possible support needed in promoting sports activities in Tral and Pulwama district.
Speaking on the occasion, young players sought better sports facilities that include playgrounds, cricket kits and sponsoring of tournaments so that they can play at domestic, national and international levels tomorrow. “I assured the young players all the possible support so that they can excel in various sports categories,” he said.
Later, Thakur paid a visit to the revered shrine in Awan area of Tral, and sought blessings of the saint. On the occasion, Thakur met various public delegations who apprised him of the day to day problems being faced by them including roads, electricity and water. “I assured all the delegations timely redressal of grievances and told them that their issues will be taken up with the concerned authorities for fast track redressal,” Thakur said.
