Dozens of roads to far-flung, remote villages closed due to fresh snow

Srinagar, Feb 27 : Dozens of roads leading to far flung and remote villages, including near the Line of Control (LoC), were closed on Saturday following fresh snowfall in the entire Kashmir valley.

However, traffic was resumed on the road between border town of Karnah with district headquarter Kupwara after remaining suspended in the morning due to snowfall.

‘We have suspended traffic between border towns of Machil and Keran with district headquarter Kupwara on Saturday following fresh snowfall since late last night’, a Police Control Room (PCR) official told UNI over phone from Kupwara. Over one foot of fresh snowfall was recorded on both the roads.

Dozens of other roads, leading to far-flung and remote villages, including those near the LoC, were also closed due to snowfall.

Though the district administration has started snow clearance operation, but continued snowfall was hampering the operation.

However, Karnah-Kupwara road was through due to snowfall, he said.

Meanwhile, the border town of Gurez and dozens of other villages near the LoC remained cut off from the district headquarter Bandipora in north Kashmir.

Gurez, which is surrounded by Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) from three sides received over six inches of snowfall since early this morning. It was snowing in the entire north Kashmir, reports received said.
