California schools likely to be closed for rest of school year, says governor

California, Mar 18 : Most California schools will likely remain closed for the rest of the school year to prevent spread of novel coronavirus, said Guv Gavin Newsom.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the governor said that “Don’t anticipate schools are going to open up in a week, please don’t anticipate in a few weeks,” Newsom said. “I would plan and assume that it’s unlikely that many of these schools, few if any, will open for before the summer break.”
Nearly all the state’s schools have already shut down as the most populous state tries to stop the spread of the virus, and the rest will soon, he said.
Nearly all school districts in the state, with a total student body of 6.1 million students, have been closed in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
