India, European Union hold talks on ‘migration and mobility’

New Delhi, : India and the European Union have reaffirmed that “migration and mobility” are an important dimension of the strategic partnership between two sides and that they would take initiatives and steps aimed at realising the full potential of further strengthening cooperation.
“Both sides reaffirmed that migration and mobility are an important dimension of the strategic partnership between India and EU, and exchanged views on further initiatives and steps aimed at realising the full potential of further strengthening cooperation in this area,” said an MEA statement here.
India and the European Union on Thursday held the fifth High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility here and exchanged views about ways to further strengthen cooperation in this area.
Sanjiv Arora, the Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) with the Ministry of External Affairs, and Paraskevi Michou, the Director General (Migration and Home Affairs), European Commission co-chaired the dialogue.
It was also attended by the heads of mission and other representatives of the Diplomatic Missions of EU member states here.
They were invited as observers to the dialogue for the first time.
“The discussions at the 5th India-EU HLDMM were held in a highly friendly and constructive spirit, and encompassed a wide range of issues of mutual interest in the context of migration and mobility along the India-EU corridor,” the statement said.
