Protest over clean chit to CJI in sexual harassment case

New Delhi, : Several women, including lawyers and others were detained after they gathered outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday and staged a demonstration opposing the clean chit given to Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi in the sexual harassment case.
Delhi Police had to detain the protestors in view of section 144 which is in effect in the sensitive VVIP area wherein gathering outside the apex court for any such protest or demonstration calls for a violation.
The protestors were detained by the police and are being released after verification , the police sources said.
On Monday, the SC’s three-judge panel found no substance in allegations of sexual harassment levelled by a former employee of the apex court against the CJI.
The protestors came in favour of the complainant, who had accused the CJI of sexually harassing her on April 30.
She had intended not to appear before in house panel of the top court.
