Cleanliness drive held in Sonamarg on world Tourism Day

GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 27: To mark the celebration of World Tourism Day, a simple but impressive function was today organized in the meadows of Sonamarg which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal. Every year across the globe World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27th of September under a particular theme that changes year after year. This year’s World Tourism Day is celebrated with the theme of “Tourism and Development”. CEO Sonamarg Development Authority, DIO Ganderbal, Dy. CEO Ganderbal, President Hotelier Association J&K and Ladakh, NGOs, Hoteliers, shopkeepers besides students were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion the DC said that Preserving our natural resources is vital for development of tourism and highlighted the initiatives taken by the District Administration in preserving nature and Solid waste management in the area for flourishing tourism footfall in the district. The DC also highlighted the importance of cleanliness and unique role that tourism plays in providing opportunities in preserving cultural and natural heritage in a particular region. He also urged the students and media persons to play key role in exploring the Sonamarg by highlighting its picturesque through different platforms including Social media. Several students and other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of preserving Environment for tourism development in the district. Later, the DC also flagged off cleanliness drive in which students, NGOs, Hoteliers and representatives of Sonamarg market association participated. The participants collected the waste throughout
