Commissioner Secretary I&C visits Bemina Woollen Mills

Emphasizes introduction of new product ranges, strengthening of marketing networks

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 25: Commissioner Secretary Industries & Commerce, M K Dwivedi, today visited Government Woollen Mills Bemina and took stock of ongoing works there being undertaken under the World Bank funded Jehlum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP).

Managing Director JKI, Sanjay Handoo briefed the Commissioner Secretary that new machinery is being procured to replace those which had been damaged during the 2014 floods under JTFRP besides a Showroom cum Interpretation Centre is being constructed involving a total cost of Rs. 11.74 crore.

Commissioner Secretary was informed that with the installation of new machinery the production capacity of the unit would increase significantly and additional 1 lakh kg of locally produced raw wool would be used to weave quality tweed fabric thus bringing huge economic benefit to hundreds of sheep rearing families.

Reviewing the working of the factory, Commissioner Secretary stressed on managing production on modern lines, introduction of new product ranges which are in vogue in present markets besides strengthening of marketing networks.

Dwivedi asked for exploring the possibilities of organizing special sale cum marketing events in order to clear the inventories which have piled up due to COVID lockdown. In this context, he asked for organizing a special sale cum marketing event for the employees of civil secretariat in the month of October 2020.
