Trinamool Congress MPs stage protest demanding Data Protection Law

New Delhi, : Trinamool Congress Members of Parliament, including the two floor leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Derek O’ Brien, staged protest here on Wednesday against what they said “BJP stealing data of citizens”.
Among others party leaders and lawmakers Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Prasun Banerjee and Saugata Roy were also present.
The party leaders raised anti-government slogans on Parliament premises and demanded that the government should quickly come with a new Data Protection Law.
The Trinamool leaders allege that data of individual citizens available with government through Aadhar and other documents are being ‘stolen’.
Meanwhile, BJP West Bengal unit chief Dilip Ghosh said the Trinamool’s allegation is on unfounded ground.
“All data is under protection and they are raising a non issue,” he said.
The rivalry between Trinamool and BJP intensified in recent months during electioneering for Lok Sabha polls by both the parties and thereafter as the saffron managed to win as many as 18 seats from the state wresting several constituencies from Mamata Banerjee’s party.
