0

New Delhi, Apr 06:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India’s efforts to combat the novel coronavirus have set an example and it is among countries which understood the pandemic’s seriousness while reminding that the fight against the virus will be a long one.

“India’s efforts to combat coronavirus have set an example,” the PM said.

“The speedy and holistic manner with which India acted has drawn praise not from within the country but also from the WHO,” he said and added that India played a “key role” in the holding of SAARC and G-20 meetings.

Heads of different countries have appreciated India, he said, noting that it has been coordinating with different nations and he himself has been in touch with some of them.

Addressing BJP workers to mark the 40th foundation day of the party, he also appreciated the maturity shown by people during the lockdown, describing it as unprecedented.

“Fight against coronavirus is no less than war”, Modi said, asking BJP workers to donate and encourage others to contribute to the PM-CARES fund.

“We got to see our collective strength on Sunday evening,” he said referring to Sunday’s exercise in which millions of households across the country switched off their lights and lit diyas, candles or turned on mobile torches. PM Modi said it prepared Indians for the long fight ahead.

“All sections of society; the rich and poor, the literate and illiterate, and people of various age groups, all joined hands to show this collective strength of 130 crore Indians. It further strengthened our resolve in this fight against the coronavirus,” Modi said.

“This is going to be a long fight. We don’t have to tire or feel defeated. We have to win in this long battle. We have to emerge victorious. Today, the nation’s goal, mission and resolve are one, and this is to be victorious in this battle against the coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

He also urged BJP workers to follow a five-point agenda, including working to ensure that no poor goes hungry.

He asked them to follow the guidelines issues by party president J P Nadda.

Lucknow, April 06:

Maulana Ali Hussain Qummi, secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) has said in a statement that at a time when people are dying due to the coronavirus, it is wrong to burst crackers and light lamps.
He said that during the ”9baje9minute” event on Sunday night, a large number of people in several cities were seen bursting crackers and dancing which is rather insensitive.
The cleric said that the it was also wrong for the police to enter mosques and beat up people offering ”namaaz”. He said that in some cases, the police had vandalized the mosques which was objectionable.
“One particular religion is being targeted. Lakhs of people have been collecting in Delhi prior to the lockdown but no one utters a word about them. We all have to fight against Corona virus collectively but it is unfair to blame one community, on religion,” he said.

PM s appeal on lighting lamps is BJP s hidden agenda : HDK

0

Bengaluru, Apr 05:

Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy alleged on Sunday Prime Minister Narendra Modis appeal for lighting lamps in the context of the fight against the coronavirus was a “hidden agenda” of the BJP and challenged him to offer a credible scientific and rational explanation for his call. Has the PM slyly asked the nation to observe a candle light vigil on the eve of foundation day of BJP? April 6 being its foundation day, what else can explain the choice of date & time for this event? I challenge the PM to offer a credible scientific and rational explanation, the Janata Dal (Secular) leader tweeted. It is shameful to convert the national crisis into an event of self aggrandisement & it is beyond shameful to push the hidden agenda of his party in the face of global calamity. May sense prevail upon the PM, Kumaraswamy said. The government, he alleged, is yet to provide personal protective equipment (PPEs) for doctors and make test kits affordable for the common man. Without telling the nation what concrete steps are being taken to combat COVID-19 menace, the Prime Minister is giving meaningless tasks to an already exhausted population, the son of former Prime Minister and JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda claimed. The Prime Minister on Friday urged people to switch off lights at their homes and light up lamps, candles and hold mobile phone torches for nine minutes from 9 pm on Sunday to display the country”s “collective resolve” to defeat the coronavirus.
