GoI Hikes DA by 2% for Central Government Employees

New Delhi, April 18,: The Centre has approved a two per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees, providing a marginal boost to salaries amid ongoing inflationary pressures.

The decision raises the DA rate applicable to government employees, with the revision also expected to benefit pensioners through a corresponding increase in Dearness Relief (DR).

The hike is part of periodic revisions undertaken by the government to offset the impact of rising prices and maintain the purchasing power of employees and retirees.

Officials said the increase will be implemented as per the approved schedule, though detailed orders regarding effective date and arrears, if any, are expected separately.

The revision comes against the backdrop of continued inflation concerns, with DA adjustments typically linked to movements in the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW).

While the two per cent increase is relatively modest, it is expected to impact millions of central government employees and pensioners across the country.

The move follows previous DA revisions, which are generally announced twice a year, in line with recommendations based on inflation trends.

Further clarity on disbursement timelines and calculation of revised benefits is likely to be issued through official notifications. [KNT]
