Subzero Conditions Persist in Kashmir, Jammu Plains Remain Cold

Srinagar, Jan 15,: Severe cold conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday as minimum temperatures remained below freezing at most places in the Kashmir region, while parts of the Jammu region also witnessed chilly nights.

In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.9 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar Airport registered a lower minimum of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius. Qazigund recorded minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam settled at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius. Kupwara recorded minus 4.9 degrees Celsius and Kokernag registered minus 1.1 degrees Celsius.

The ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius. Pampore settled at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Awantipora and Budgam both recorded minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. Anantnag recorded minus 5.7 degrees Celsius, while Baramulla and Bandipora recorded minus 2.2 and minus 2.7 degrees Celsius respectively.

Pulwama and Shopian emerged as the coldest places, each recording minus 6.1 degrees Celsius. Ganderbal recorded minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, while Sonamarg settled at minus 5.8 degrees Celsius. Sopore recorded minus 5.7 degrees Celsius and Beerwah recorded minus 5.2 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius, while Jammu Airport settled at 5.4 degrees Celsius. Banihal recorded 1.9 degrees Celsius and Batote recorded 4.9 degrees Celsius. Katra recorded 6.8 degrees Celsius, while Bhaderwah dipped to minus 0.1 degrees Celsius.

Udhampur recorded minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, while Ramban settled at 2.6 degrees Celsius. Rajouri recorded 0.3 degrees Celsius, Poonch recorded 4.4 degrees Celsius and Kishtwar recorded 1.0 degree Celsius. Reasi settled at 3.7 degrees Celsius and Doda recorded 4.7 degrees Celsius.

Authorities have advised locals to take precautions as cold conditions are expected to persist in the coming days. [KNT]
