Srinagar, Sep 8 – National Conference (NC) President and Member of Parliament, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, today led senior party leaders, workers, and supporters in paying rich tributes to party founder and former J&K CM Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 43rd death anniversary at Qaid Mazar, Naseem Bagh.
In a solemn ceremony attended by top party functionaries, floral tributes were offered at the mausoleum of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, fondly remembered as the architect of modern Jammu and Kashmir. Party flags fluttered at half-mast as workers reiterated their commitment to the ideals and vision of the late leader.
Prominent among those who participated in the remembrance event was senior NC leader and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather. In his message, Rather hailed Sheikh Abdullah as the tallest leader in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, who devoted his entire life to the upliftment of the oppressed and marginalized.
“Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was a towering reformist whose revolutionary decisions, such as the Land to the Tiller Act and the introduction of free education, have no parallels in the history of the state,” Rather said.
Emphasizing the continued relevance of Sheikh Abdullah’s philosophy, Rather urged the younger generation to follow in his footsteps for the development of a harmonious and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
“Sher-e-Kashmir lived by the slogan of ‘Hindu-Muslim-Sikh Itehaad’ and worked tirelessly to promote unity and social justice. His contributions towards the upliftment of the people of the erstwhile state will be remembered for all times to come,” Rather added.
The NC leadership reaffirmed their resolve to carry forward the mission of Sher-e-Kashmir in building an inclusive and equitable society.
