Police registered 98 cases, seized 155 vehicles and arrested 155 persons from past four months

Baramulla: Police in their ongoing drive against illegal mining in Baramulla have registered 98 cases and apprehended 155 persons for their involvement in the extraction and transportation of minerals over the past four months of 2024.

In a statement police Spokesperson said, “155 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals which includes 58 Tippers, 93 Tractors & 4 excavators have also been seized from different areas of the district,”

He further stated that the Baramulla Police in collaboration with the Mineral Department, have imposed fines worth lakhs of rupees for these illegal activities.

According to a police spokesperson, “We are committed to take action against those who are illegally extracting and transporting minerals during wee hours, which not only poses a risk to public health ,the ecology and the revenue of the government,” reads the statement.
