PM Modi gives clarion call to fight terrorism

Osaka (Japan),:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a strong pitch for a united and concerted fight against terrorism and insisted on his new found idea for a global meet to deal with the menace and also with terror financing.
“Atankvad sari manavta ke liye sabse bada khatra hae (Terrorism remains the biggest threat for entire humanity),” Prime Minister said at the informal meeting of BRICS leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit here.
“Terrorism not only takes lives of innocent people….but it also hampers economic progress and poses an adverse impact on social stability,” Mr Modi said.
He suggested that all steps ought to be taken to fight the global menace of terrorism and racism ‘(jaati vad)’.
“Recently, I have made a call for a global conference to discuss various aspects of terrorism. The fight against terror menace should become among the top priorities of the world. I laud the role of Brazil on this,” Prime Minister said.
During his recent visits to Kyrgyzstan for the SCO Summit and to the Maldives and Sri Lanka, Mr Modi had given a major push to fight terrorism and had mooted the suggestion for a global conference on the same.
He said the solutions to global problems are not easy, “but I would like to moot five major suggestions” and added that there should be effective and smooth coordination between BRICS member nations.
Prime Minister said – “We should work for multi-lateralism and there must be reforms in world trade and financial bodies”.
“For continues development, oil and gas should be made available at an economical price,” he said.
Prime Minister said the movement of skilled workforce should be made simpler and easier.
BRICS leaders- Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, Russia President Vladimir Putin, PM Narendra Modi, China President Xi Jinping and South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, posed for a photo session before the informal meet on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Osaka.
Mr Modi in his remarks congratulated South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa for his re-election.
The informal meeting between BRICS leaders – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa would help the five member nations maintain a right equilibrium and understanding while taking part at the G20 Summit deliberations, Prime Minister said.
Mr Modi laid emphasis on three major issues confronting the international community today.
They are – global economic recession, rule based multi lateral trade related matters and to make development a balanced and sustainable phenomenon.
“Climate Change is not only a challenge of our time. It poses a matter of serious concern even for the coming generation,” Prime Minister said in presence of Russian President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping among others.
“Development is true development and effective only when it does away with the imbalances,” Prime Minister said.
