DC Srinagar inspects Playground at Sonwar

Facilities being setup for Fencing, Shooting, Archery

Srinagar, Mar 25:In order to provide a healthy sports ecosystem and to develop play courts for Olympic pattern games in Srinagar District, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Friday inspected Sonwar Playground to oversee facilities being setup for Shooting, Fencing and Archery.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the Chief Planning Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, District Mineral Officer, Tehsildar Srinagar South, Tehsildar Headquarter, Executive Engineer R&B and other concerned officers.

While inspecting the space identified for setting up of courts for Shooting, Fencing, Archery the  Deputy Commissioner directed the R&B department to prepare DPRS for renovation and face-lifting of the proposed sports courts as well as the school building. He also asked them to take necessary safety measures for strengthening the boundary barrier around the premises to prevent any unregulated entry into the premises.

The DC directed the District Youth Services & Sports Officer to take all possible measures while upgrading sports facilities so that it becomes a platform for budding youth to prepare them for Olympic level sports events.

On the occasion, a delegation of local youth also called on the Deputy Commissioner and put forth their suggestions with regard to upgradation of sports infrastructure at the mentioned place.

While interacting with them, the DC said that the sport has a positive and constructive role in our social and psychological development besides such events enable youth to engage in positive pursuits. He said various initiatives have been taken for the development of sports and requisite infrastructure in the District. The DC assured sports enthusiasts that every possible support in terms of equipment, infrastructure upgradation and general handholding will be provided by the administration to showcase their talent.

The DC also urged them to play a role in protection and maintenance of the play field which caters to the entire area.
