Greenpeace activists outcry over Poland’s extravagant coal usage

Warsaw, :  Several Greenpeace activists climbed onto the roof of the building that houses Poland’s ruling Polish Law and Justice party on Tuesday to protest the widespread use of coal in the nation’s energy industry.
The environmental activists have covered the facade of the building with black cloth reading “Poland without coal 2030,” Sputnik reported.
“We keep building coal-fired power plants, keep building mines. We have no plan for converting mountainous territories,” the climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace Poland and organiser of the protest, Marek Jozefiak, told reporters.
The activists also accuse the ruling party of failing to cover climate issues during their electoral campaign.
“We have 11 years to prevent a climate disaster. Poland must give up coal by 2030,” Greenpeace’s Polish office tweeted.
Currently, 80 percent of energy production in Poland is based on coal.
