All eyes on NZ-AFG match now: Kohli after thrashing Scotland

Dubai, Nov 6: Though Virat Kohli’s devils pulled off a resounding win against Scotland, he was not in the mood to celebrate, at least not yet, knowing fully well the crucial match ahead on November 7, where Afghanistan needs to beat New Zealand by a thin margin and help India in a battle to defeat Namibia in their last Super 12 match to storm into the semi final stages of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“A dominating performance, something that we were striving to do again. Now it will be interesting to see what happens on 7th (November). Don’t want to say a lot about today’s performance, we know what we can do,” he said at the post-match presentation here.

But he did not stop at that, but gave credit to Indian batters and bowlers for putting up yet another power packed performance.

“The bowlers were excellent, and then KL and Rohit did really well. We discussed about 8-10 over brackets before the start. But, we did not want to go hard because if you lose wickets, then an extra 20 balls could cost you. We thought that if they play naturally, runs will come quickly,” he said.

“(Ravindra) Jadeja bowled really well, and also (Mohammad) Shami was quite good,” Team India captain added.

This win, Kohli continued, tells the importance of winning the toss at this venue. “We wanted to get them under 110-120 max, that was the mindset we went in with,” he said.

Batting second at this venue has been advantageous because of the dew factor which makes stroke-making easy as the ball comes on to the bat at a normal pace, without gripping on the track.
