Rajya Sabha adjourned till 1200 hrs amid Oppn protests over Pegasus row

New Delhi, Jul 27(UNI) Proceedings of Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 1200 hrs on Tuesday after the Opposition created a ruckus demanding a discussion on the ‘Pegasus project’ report.

The House proceedings started at 1100 hrs with Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu reading obituary references for former member Wasim Ahmad, former President and PM of Mauritius Anerood Jugnauth and first president of Zambia Dr Kenneth Kaunda.

A minute’s silence was observed in the honour of the departed souls.

Soon after, the Opposition members trooped into the Well of the House raising slogans disrupting proceedings as MoS V Muraleedharan laid the papers on the table.

Naidu urged the protesting MPs to resume their seats but in vain.

‘Please go back to your seats. You cannot force me like this. Nothing will go the record other than the Chair’s observations. You can’t force me like this through undemocratic method.” he warned.

‘Parliament is meant for making laws, but it is not being allowed to function. Unfortunately, Parliament is being reduced to such a sorry state’, he said as the slogan-shouting intensified.

The Chair then adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.
