Srinagar, Sep 2: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said Jammu and Kashmir was passing through difficult times, accusing the Centre of failing to fulfill its commitment on restoration of statehood.
Addressing the party’s protest in Srinagar, Abdullah said the Centre had promised to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir but the commitment had not yet been implemented.
“J&K is facing tough times. The Centre promised us statehood, but it has neither been restored nor have the business rules been sent to us,” Abdullah said.
The NC chief also alleged that there were people within Jammu and Kashmir who had supported the abrogation of Article 370, describing them as “agents” and saying they would ultimately be answerable for their actions.
“They will have to answer to the Almighty one day,” he said.Abdullah said Wednesday’s protest was intended to convey that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would no longer remain silent over issues concerning their political and constitutional rights.
“Today, we showed them that we will no longer remain silent. We will never bow our heads,” he said.
His remarks came as the National Conference held a protest in Srinagar seeking restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
