J&K BJP distances itself from objectionable slogans at Anantnag rally

Says remarks by some individuals don’t reflect party’s stand; reiterates commitment to women’s dignity

Srinagar, Aug 06: The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit on Thursday distanced itself from objectionable slogans raised by some individuals during a rally at Anantnag Housing Colony, saying the remarks neither reflected the party’s ideology nor its official stand.

The party also reaffirmed its commitment to women’s dignity and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women empowerment.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the party has always upheld the dignity and honour of women and that the 33 per cent reservation for women reflects its commitment to women’s empowerment.

He said the slogans allegedly raised by some individuals should not be attributed to the BJP as an organisation, asserting that the party does not endorse any defamatory or derogatory remarks against anyone.

Thakur said the BJP remains committed to political decorum, issue-based politics and strengthening the participation of women in public life. He added that the party’s policies and public conduct are guided by the principles of respect, democracy and constitutional values.—(KNO)
