CM Omar visits flood-hit areas of Rajouri, assures relief, rehabilitation

Rajouri, Aug 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday visited flash flood-affected areas of Rajouri district, including Bella Colony and Behrote Aitti, where he met families impacted by the July 19 floods and reviewed the ongoing rescue, restoration and rehabilitation measures.

Speaking to reporters during the visit, CM Omar, said the government’s immediate priority during the July 19 flash floods was to minimise the loss of human lives.

He expressed grief over the loss of four lives in the district and said the prompt response by the district administration. “Had the administration not acted swiftly that night, the number of casualties could have been much higher,” he said.

He also said restoration work across Rajouri district is being carried out on a war footing. “Electricity supply has been restored almost completely, while efforts are underway to revive damaged drinking water supply schemes of the Jal Shakti Department.

He also assured that families whose houses have been damaged will receive eligible compensation, while those who have lost their land due to the floods will be provided alternate plots for rebuilding their homes.

He also said farmers whose agricultural land and crops have suffered extensive damage would be provided necessary assistance, including arrangements for free ration for up to six months to one year.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government stands firmly with the flood-affected families and will ensure timely relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction measures across the district.
