
New Delhi, July 15: Veteran politician and former Union Minister Dr. Karan Singh on Wednesday appealed to Ladakhi social activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his indefinite hunger strike, expressing concern over his health as the protest entered its 18th day.
In a statement issued from New Delhi, Dr. Karan Singh urged Wangchuk to resume a normal diet, warning that continuing the prolonged fast could put his life at risk.
Dr. Karan Singh said that, ”Ladakhi social activist Sonam Wangchuk has been on a prolonged hunger strike and warned that if it continues, his life will be in danger.” He appealed to Wangchuk that after making his point, he should now resume a normal diet. He added that the country could ill afford to lose such a talented innovator who has made an important contribution to life in Ladakh over the years.
Dr. Karan Singh described Wangchuk as a gifted innovator whose work has brought recognition to Ladakh and contributed significantly to the welfare and development of the region.
Wangchuk’s hunger strike, which entered its 18th day on Wednesday, has drawn widespread attention, with concerns being raised over the impact of the prolonged fast on his health. Several public figures and supporters have appealed to him to reconsider continuing the protest in view of the risks associated with an extended hunger strike.
Dr. Karan Singh’s appeal comes amid continued focus on Wangchuk’s demands and the ongoing discussions surrounding issues concerning Ladakh.
