Srinagar, June 6,: With the annual Amarnath Yatra scheduled to commence next month, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Ramky Infrastructure have intensified highway improvement and beautification works along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims.
Officials associated with the project said painting and maintenance works are being carried out at various locations on the highway, including road dividers, crash barriers, curbstones and other infrastructure, to improve visibility and enhance road safety.
The ongoing exercise is part of broader preparations being undertaken by various agencies ahead of the pilgrimage, which attracts thousands of devotees from across the country every year.
Workers have been deployed at several stretches of the highway to complete the works within the stipulated timeframe before the arrival of Yatra convoys.
Authorities said the objective is not only to improve the appearance of the highway corridor but also to create a safer travel environment for pilgrims and other commuters using the route.
The Srinagar-Jammu Highway serves as the principal road link for pilgrims travelling to the twin base camps of Baltal and Nunwan during the annual pilgrimage.
Besides road beautification, several departments are engaged in infrastructure upgrades, traffic management planning and logistical preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the Yatra. [KNT]
