Copper wire stolen from rice mill transformer, police crack case

Pulwama, Jan 16,: Police in Awantipora sub-division of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have solved a theft case involving the stealing of copper wire from a transformer installed at a local rice mill, leading to the arrest of the accused, officials said.

According to police, Police Station Awantipora received a written complaint from Umar Gani Wani, son of Abdul Gani Wani, an inhabitant of Beighpora, stating that a couple of days ago, unknown thieves barged into his rice mill and decamped with copper wire from the transformer installed there.

Following the complaint, FIR No. 18 of 2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Awantipora, and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a police team headed by the Incharge Police Post Reshipora, Sub Inspector Muneer Ahmad, under the supervision of SHO Police Station Awantipora, Inspector Ajaz Ahmad, employed modern investigative methods. Police said these included detailed analysis of CCTV footage collected from multiple locations in and around the area.

The technical analysis helped investigators identify the accused as Showkat Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Ayoub Dar, an inhabitant of Bonpora, Panzgam. He was subsequently apprehended and is presently in police custody.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused is involved in other similar theft cases in the area or elsewhere. [KNT]
