Srinagar: Police on Thursday carried out coordinated raids across multiple districts of Kashmir targeting individuals suspected of links with militant groups and banned organisations.
Officials said searches were conducted in Shopian, Pulwama, Srinagar, Baramulla and Kulgam as part of a Valley wide security drive. In Shopian district, major raids were reported where Shopian Police carried out meticulously planned searches at multiple locations, focusing on individuals and premises linked with the banned organisation Jamaat e Islami, which stands proscribed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
Sources said the operations are aimed at dismantling support networks, identifying over ground workers and checking alleged financial and logistical assistance to militants. Police said the drive is intended to prevent regrouping of banned networks and strengthen security at the grassroots level.
During the searches, police teams conducted verification exercises and questioned several persons as part of standard procedure. Officials said the action is being carried out strictly as per law and under proper supervision.
Police said further action will follow wherever involvement in unlawful activities is established and that operations will continue to maintain pressure on banned outfits and their support structures.
Locals have been advised to cooperate and inform police about any suspicious activity. [KNT]
