Shopian: Shopian Police on Friday carried out an extensive physical verification drive across the district, focusing on vehicles and the transaction records maintained by automobile dealers. The exercise is part of an ongoing effort to ensure transparency in vehicle dealings and prevent any misuse of vehicles for unlawful activities.
Police teams visited multiple dealerships where they conducted on-ground inspections of vehicles available at the premises and examined documentation related to their sale, purchase and transfer. Officers checked the authenticity of transaction records, the timely transfer of ownership and any discrepancies that could pose security concerns.
Dealers were advised to keep comprehensive and updated records, including mandatory documentation required under statutory norms. Police also sensitised dealership staff about the importance of proper record-keeping in supporting district-level security frameworks.
Officials said that similar verification exercises will continue in the coming days as part of broader measures to enhance oversight, ensure compliance and safeguard public safety.
Shopian Police reiterated their commitment to strengthening monitoring systems and maintaining a secure environment across the district. [KNT]
