Snowfall starts in south Kashmir districts

Anantnag : Light snowfall has begun in South Kashmir, covering areas like Kulgam, Qazigund, Kokernag, Achabal, Anantnag, Shopian, and the Jawahar Tunnel.

While light snow is falling now, the weather department expects more snow in higher altitudes and intermittent snow in the plains.

News agency KINS reported that the authorities have advised residents to stay cautious as roads may become slippery, particularly in hilly and rural areas. Efforts are underway to ensure road safety and manage any snow-related disruptions.

The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department has already issued a weather forecast for the coming days, predicting varied conditions across the region.

27-28th Dec: Generally cloudy weather is expected, with light rain over the plains of Jammu and light snowfall over the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range.

Light snowfall is also anticipated in the middle and higher reaches, particularly in South and Central Kashmir, starting this evening and continuing through the night.

29-31st Dec: The weather is expected to remain generally dry, with cloudy skies on the 31st.

1-2nd Jan: Expect generally cloudy weather with light snow in isolated areas.3-5th Jan: The weather will remain generally cloudy, with light snow at scattered places.

A cold wave is expected at isolated locations during 30th and 31st December.

Due to fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperatures, and icy conditions over important passes and higher reaches, tourists, travelers, and transporters are strongly advised to follow official traffic and weather advisories.
