Kashmir gripped by cold wave, night temperature in Srinagar recorded minus 7.3 degrees Celsius

Srinagar: As per the forecast of the Meteorological Department,cold wave has intensified in the Kashmir Valley, making it impossible for the people of the valley to step out of their homes, especially in the morning and evening.

According to a MeT Official, the cold wave may continue to reign in the valley for the next two days. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 7.3 degrees Celsius in the summer capital Srinagar, where the temperature recorded last night was minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, where the temperature was minus 7.8 degrees Celsius last night. Sonamarg  recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.5 degrees Celsius, where the temperature was minus 8.5 degrees Celsius last night.  Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, where the same temperature was recorded last night. Qazigund, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.
The night temperatures in Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir were recorded at minus 9.1 degrees Celsius, minus 9.1 degrees Celsius, minus 9.0 degrees Celsius and minus 6.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

The minimum temperatures in Baramulla and Bandipora districts of north Kashmir were recorded at minus 6.1 degrees Celsius and minus 7.2 degrees Celsius respectively. The night temperatures in Budgam and Ganderbal districts of central Kashmir were recorded at minus 7.8 degrees Celsius and minus 6.9 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature in Leh district of Ladakh Union Territory was minus 12.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature in Kargil district was minus 12.0 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, due to the night temperature being recorded below freezing point in the valley, water reservoirs and taps installed in houses are also freezing, due to which the people of the valley have to face severe water shortage in the morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, cold waves are likely to continue in some areas of the valley till December 26. He said that the weather is likely to remain generally dry from December 24 to 26. He said that light rains are expected in the plains of Jammu on December 27 and 28, while light snowfall is expected in the hilly areas of Chenab Valley and Pir Panchal.

He said that later the weather is likely to remain generally dry in the valley on December 29 and 30. He said that the weather will remain cloudy on December 31 with light snowfall in some places in the hilly areas, while later from January 1 to January 3, the weather may be generally cloudy and there is a possibility of light snowfall in some places.
